Louisa County high school seniors may now apply for over $9,000 in Community Foundation of Louisa County scholarships through the online application portal. Online high school scholarship applications are being accepted from December 9, 2024, through March 7, 2025, at noon.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, below is a list of scholarship funds established at the Community Foundation of Louisa County for local students that are available through the online scholarship application portal:
Bill Bartenhagen Trade School Memorial Scholarship - A $500 scholarship for a graduating senior from Louisa-Muscatine High School who plans to attend post-secondary education for a trade career including but not limited to brick mason, carpenter, chef, computer technician, cosmetologist, dental hygienist, electrician, mechanic, nurse, plumber, radiology technician, welder, and vocational agriculture.
Don and Donna Williams Scholarship - Up to four $1,000 scholarship awards for Wapello High School graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education in the state of Iowa. Applicants should demonstrate financial need, a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, leadership skills, good character, work experience, extra-curricular activities, and community service experience. This scholarship fund was established by Don, a lifelong farmer in Louisa County, and his wife Donna, a physical therapist.
Edwin R. Hicklin Memorial Scholarship - Up to three $1,000 scholarship awards given in memory of Edwin R. Hicklin, for a Wapello High School graduating senior enrolling in a post-secondary educational institution in the state of Iowa. Applicants should demonstrate financial need, leadership skills, good character, work experience, extra-curricular activities, and community service experience.
Lisa (Doc) and Jeanette Luithly Memorial Scholarship - A $500 scholarship award for a graduating senior of Columbus Community High School enrolling full-time at an accredited post-secondary educational institution with the purpose of earning credits for a bachelor's degree. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, financial need, be a member of the National Honor Society, and participation in extra-curricular high school activities, volunteer or community service, or employment experience. The family of Lisle (Doc) Luithly established this scholarship award for a graduating senior of Columbus Community High School to honor the memory of Doc Luithly, a long-time Columbus Wildcat fan and Southeast Iowa Conference Secretary.
Ray and Evelyn Werner Education, Human Services, or Agriculture Scholarship - A $1,000 scholarship award given in honor of Ray and Evelyn Werner who spent their lives educating and helping others. This award is for a Wapello High School graduating senior with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater, pursuing post-secondary education full-time at a 2- or 4-year college or university in the state of Iowa to pursue a career in education, a human services or agriculture-related field.
Additional scholarships established through the Community Foundation are available outside of the online scholarship application portal:
Robert & Marillyn Schlutz Future of Agriculture Scholarship - Scholarship awards for Louisa-Muscatine High School graduating seniors who have been actively enrolled in FFA, maintained at least a 2.5 minimum GPA for all agriculture courses, and have competed in an FFA leadership or career development event, or exhibited a project at the Louisa County or Iowa State Fair during their high school FFA career. Applications are available beginning February 1 with Adam Crews, Louisa-Muscatine FFA Advisor.
Wapello Alumni Association Scholarship - Scholarships awarded to Wapello High School graduating seniors administered by the Wapello High School Alumni Scholarship Committee. Click here for the application. Applications are to be returned to the Counseling Office by April 5.
William J. Paris Conservation Scholarship - A $1,000 scholarship award for a Louisa County High School graduate or a Louisa County resident attending an Iowa college, university, or technical school. Study emphasis must lead to a degree in natural resources or conservation, or in another field, such as education. The scholarship is administered through the Tri-Rivers Conservation Foundation and must be submitted by March 15. Click here for more information.
